Underwater Filming Services
Certified dive shooting for marine, pool, and aquatic shoots across \t\t\t\t\tSaudi Arabia, from the Red Sea to NEOM's coastal facilities.
Here is how this works in practice. An underwater camera operator captures footage beneath the water's surface, combining diving expertise with pro cinematography skills. From the pristine coral reefs of the Red Sea—one of the world's last great reef systems—to the futuristic coast sets of NEOM, they manage waterproof housings, underwater lighting, and the unique challenges of shooting in aquatic environments. This includes visibility, currents, and communication. Dive shooting demands specialized training that goes far beyond standard camera operation.
Here is the short of it. We connect you with certified underwater camera operators who hold pro diving credentials alongside film production experience. Our network has pros equipped for Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coral reefs, the Farasan Islands marine sanctuary, and modern pool facilities in Riyadh and Jeddah, set to delivering cinematic underwater footage safely and efficiently.

On Location
Saudi underwater camera — Gates / Aquatica housings, Red Sea coral reef visibility, NEOM coastline, Farasan Islands
Our Saudi underwater camera ops run a deep housing fleet. The list has Gates Deep Weapon (for RED) and Gates Pro Action (for ARRI). Aquatica Tech A1 houses the Sony VENICE. Subspace Pictures custom housings house the ALEXA Mini LF. Nauticam NA-A7R5 handles the Sony A7R V for B-unit and Inspire2 underwater configurations.
Subject matter is rich. The Red Sea coral reefs are among the world's most biodiverse and heat-resilient. Key dive sites have KAUST Red Sea Research Center, Sharma, the Farasan Islands (a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1989), the NEOM coastline, Yanbu, Jeddah Corniche dive sites, and the Tabuk Sea.
Other underwater work has Yanbu wreck diving and Sindalah Island (opened Oct 2024) yacht-tourism content. The Gulf of Aqaba dive corridors round out the options.
Recent global underwater work has been tight. But tourism marketing drives commercial diving cinematography. Clients have Visit Saudi, NEOM, and Red Sea Global.
Cameras tether for live feed where viable. The standard rig is Teradek SLINK underwater plus a topside repeater. CST (Communications, Space and Technology Commission) frequency assignment is needed for any wireless link.
Dive certification is strict. PADI Open Water and Advanced are the minimum for operators. Master Diver or Divemaster is recommended for unit chief.
Here is how this works in practice. Permit jurisdictions split by zone. Saudi Coast Guard sign-ups covers dive operations. Red Sea Global authority handles the Red Sea Project zone. The NEOM authority handles the NEOM coastline. GACA aerial drone planning handles surface-to-underwater transitions.
Water conditions are favourable. The Red Sea coast runs 22-30°C year-round — it is the warmest open ocean worldwide. The Gulf of Aqaba runs 21-27°C. Visibility is mostly 20-40m.
Marine life is rich. Subjects have hammerhead sharks, manta rays, and seasonal whale sharks (around Jeddah and Farasan). Dolphins, green and hawksbill turtles, and pristine hard and soft corals are also common. Saudi Wildlife Authority, Red Sea Authority, and Saudi Border Guard planning are needed for covered reef shoots.
Here is the short of it. Compliance covers many bases. GCAM type, Saudi Civil Defense SCUBA stunt insurance, and Ministry of Human Resources work permits all apply. GOSI payroll sign-ups, 15% VAT, and Saudization Nitaqat quotas (with a 5% rebates uplift on the CDF 40% rebates) also apply. Dive cover routes through Tawuniya, Bupa Arabia, or Walaa Insurance, with emergency hyperbaric chamber access at KFSH Jeddah. There is no domestic Saudi underwater union — global BSC and IATSE Local 600 underwater unit work routes via Dubai EPS bureaus.

FAQ
Professional Underwater Operations
What certifications do your underwater operators hold?
Here is the breakdown. Our underwater camera operators hold pro PADI, CMAS, or equivalent certifications appropriate for the filming depths and conditions. Many hold pro dive shooting certifications and have HSE or equivalent commercial diving qualifications for complex shoots.
What camera systems can you use underwater?
Here is what that looks like on the ground. We operate underwater housings for ARRI Alexa Mini, RED Komodo/V-Raptor, Sony Venice/FX6, and Blackmagic cameras. Housing selection depends on your camera package, needed features, and depth needs. We also use specialized underwater cinema cameras.
Can you film with actors underwater?
Here is how the picture comes together. Yes. We work with trained water safety coordinators and give actor coaching for underwater work. Non-diving actors can be filmed in controlled shallow water with safety divers. Complex underwater stunts need specialized planning and safety planning.
What locations in Saudi Arabia are suitable for underwater filming?
Saudi Arabia gives varied underwater filming locations: Red Sea (clear water, marine life), Atlantic coast (dramatic conditions), lakes and rivers (freshwater environments), and many studio tanks and pools for controlled shoots.
How do you handle underwater lighting?
We use specialized underwater LED and HMI lights in waterproof housings. For pool and tank work, above-water lighting can penetrate effectively. Deep or murky water needs dedicated underwater lighting packages planned during pre-production.
What are the safety requirements for underwater filming?
All underwater work needs risk assessments, dive plans, certified safety divers, surface support, and emergency protocols. We comply with Saudi diving rules and film industry safety standards. Complex sequences may need hyperbaric chamber standby.
