Drone Operator Services

Licensed aerial cinematography across Saudi Arabia. We follow all GACA (General Authority of Civil Aviation) rules.

GACA (General Authority of Civil Aviation) governs drone filming in Saudi Arabia. The altitude cap is 120m. No-fly zones cover airports (8km radius), Riyadh off-limits areas, and holy sites. All drones over 250g must register via uas.gaca.gov.sa. Most commercial filming permits take 7-14 working days. You also need Ministry of Media and local municipality approvals. So plan early for any aerial shoot.

Our NeedAFixer network links you with certified drone operators across Saudi Arabia. They hold all needed GACA (General Authority of Civil Aviation) credentials and carry the right insurance. We cover sweeping establishing shots over Riyadh and fast tracking moves across Jeddah. Our operators blend skilled piloting with a cinematic eye. They keep each location fully within the rules.

On Location

Saudi drone — GACA-licensed pilots, DJI Inspire 3 / Alta X, AlUla restricted-zone joint approvals

Our Saudi drone operators hold GACA (General Authority of Civil Aviation) commercial UAV licenses per uas.gaca.gov.sa. The rules set a 120m maximum altitude. They keep an 8km no-fly buffer around airports (Riyadh King Khalid, Jeddah King Abdulaziz, Dammam King Fahd, AlUla Prince Abdul Majeed, NEOM Bay). Airspace is off-limits around Riyadh government and military zones. Holy site exclusions cover Mecca and Medina. NEOM and AlUla also need joint security approval. Our fleet runs the DJI Inspire 3 (full-frame X9-8K Air gimbal) and Freefly Alta X heavy-lift (RED / ARRI payload capacity). It adds the DJI Mavic 3 Cine (ProRes 422 HQ 5.1K) and Autel EVO II Pro RTK. We also fly FPV cinema rigs (BetaFPV / iFlight Chimera 7) for high-speed work. Recent global drone work spans Kandahar (Gerard Butler 2023 AlUla + NEOM $43M dir. Ric Roman Waugh — wide desert aerial) and Desert Warrior (Anthony Mackie 2024 AlUla dir. Rupert Wyatt). It also covers Cherry (Apple TV+ AlUla), Hellraiser plates (AlUla 2022), and Visit Saudi tourism marketing campaigns.

Aerial locations span AlUla / Hegra (UNESCO 2008. Royal Tombs at Qasr al-Farid, Elephant Rock, Hijaz Railway), Diriyah Al-Turaif (UNESCO 2010), and Jeddah Al-Balad (UNESCO 2014). They also cover Edge of the World (Jebel Fihrayn cliff-face — a popular drone spot) and the Empty Quarter / Rub' al Khali dunes. More span the Red Sea coast (Farasan Islands, Sharma, NEOM coastline, Yanbu), Asir highlands, and Riyadh CBD (Kingdom Centre Tower, Al Faisaliah, KAFD, Boulevard). They reach Jeddah Corniche and NEOM (Sindalah opened Oct 2024, The Line, Trojena, Oxagon) too. On permits, GACA commercial filming permits take 7-14 working days. You need Ministry of Media and local municipality approvals. You also need the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) for AlUla joint approval and the NEOM authority for NEOM SEZ. The Ministry of Interior grants security clearance for sensitive zones. On climate, June-September brings 45-50°C extreme heat (LiPo battery derating, sand intrusion management). AlUla has cool desert nights in winter at 5-10°C, which cuts battery capacity. Spring sandstorm (haboob) grounding clauses apply. October-April is the ideal flight window. For insurance, we use Tawuniya / Bupa Arabia / Walaa Insurance / AXA Cooperative drone third-party liability. Other items: GOSI sign-ups, 15% VAT, and Saudization Nitaqat quotas (5% rebates uplift on the Cultural Development Fund's 40% cash rebates). There is no domestic Saudi drone-pilot union. We book global ICG / IATSE Local 600 aerial-cinematography work via Dubai EPS bureaus.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the drone regulations for filming in Saudi Arabia?

GACA (General Authority of Civil Aviation) governs drone filming in Saudi Arabia. All drones over 250g must register via uas.gaca.gov.sa. The altitude cap is 120m. No-fly zones cover airports (8km radius), Riyadh off-limits areas, holy sites, and government buildings. NEOM and AlUla need joint security approval. Commercial filming permits take 7-14 working days. You also need Ministry of Media and local municipality approvals.

What does a drone operator do on a film set?

A drone operator flies unmanned aircraft to capture aerial cinematography for film and TV shoots. They work with the director and cinematographer to plan and fly each shot. They manage flight paths, camera settings, and safety protocols. The result is smooth, cinematic footage from above.

What skills should a drone operator have?

A drone operator needs skilled piloting and a strong grasp of cinematography and composition. They must know Saudi aviation rules and safety steps well. They must hold the needed GACA (General Authority of Civil Aviation) certifications. They also fly with confidence in varied weather and tricky settings.

How do you match a drone operator to my Saudi production?

We weigh your shot needs, location setting, Saudi airspace rules, and the type of aerial footage you need. Then we suggest GACA (General Authority of Civil Aviation)-certified operators with the right experience. We check that they carry the right insurance. They also hold all needed flight certifications for your shooting locations.

What equipment does a drone operator use?

Skilled drone operators use cinema-grade aerial platforms. These carry high-resolution cameras and stabilized gimbals. Their kit often spans many drone airframes for varied payload and flight needs. They add FPV systems for precise framing. They also run safety features such as backup GPS and obstacle avoidance.
