Sound Recordist Teams
Full sound departments for film, TV, and commercial shoots across Riyadh and Jeddah and all of Saudi Arabia.
Here is how this works in practice. A sound recordist specializes in capturing audio in the field, whether recording dialogue, ambient soundscapes, or specific sound effects for a production. From the new Film Commission studios in Riyadh to the otherworldly desert landscapes of AlUla and NEOM, they select appropriate microphones, manage recording gear, and monitor audio quality in real time. Clean field recordings are the foundation of a production's final sound design.
Here is the short of it. We connect you with sound recordists who bring both tech expertise and a trained ear to location recording across Saudi Arabia. Our network has pros skilled with Saudi Film Commission shoots and documentary fieldwork from the ancient Nabataean tombs of Hegra to the Red Sea coral reefs, each committed to delivering pristine audio that boosts the final mix.

Saudi sound recordist — Sound Devices MixPre / 6XL recorders, documentary + factual + commercial coverage
Our Saudi sound recordists handle documentary, factual, news, branded content, and commercial sound. Recorder choices have the Sound Devices MixPre-10 II, MixPre-6 II, 833, and 888. We also run the Zoom F8n Pro, the Sonosax SX-R4+, and the Tascam DR-680MKII for budget tracks.
Microphone selection is tied to the job. For boom, we use the Sennheiser MKH 416 or 8060 short shotgun, the Schoeps CMIT 5U, or the DPA 4017B. Lavaliers have the DPA 6066 and 4060, the Sanken COS-11D, the Countryman B6, and Lectrosonics options. Wireless transmission runs through Lectrosonics SRc, Audio Ltd A10, or Wisycom MTP60.
CST (Communications, Space and Technology Commission) wireless frequency licensing is required. Operators must stay in the UHF 470-694MHz Saudi-approved bands.
Here is how this works in practice. Coverage spans the main domestic TV networks. We work with MBC Studios in Riyadh and Jeddah, Al Arabiya news, Saudi Broadcasting Corporation, and the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). Major event work has Visit Saudi tourism content, Riyadh Season live activations (17M+ visitors annually), MDLBEAST Soundstorm (the largest Middle East EDM festival, each December), the Red Sea Global Film Festival (RSIFF Jeddah, annual since 2021), and the Saudi Film Festival at Ithra in Dhahran.
Field conditions differ by region. AlUla and Hegra (UNESCO 2008) bring desert wind. The Empty Quarter brings haboob-season buffeting. The Red Sea coast brings 70-90% humidity and mic condensation. The Asir highlands bring wind noise. NEOM brings construction ambient. Riyadh CBD brings urban traffic.
The adhan call to prayer is audible at each urban exterior. The five daily prayers (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha) plus Friday around 12:00-13:30 force recording-pause and re-take cycles. Dialogue recording also has to cover Arabic MSA plus the Najdi (Riyadh), Hejazi (Jeddah), and Eastern dialects.
Religious site restrictions apply. No non-Muslim recordists are allowed within the Mecca or Medina Haram. Hajj audio coverage runs only through accredited Muslim TV networks like Saudi Broadcasting Corporation and Muslim partners.
Compliance covers many bases. GCAM handles type. CST handles wireless assignment. GACA handles UAV-mounted recording. Ministry of Human Resources work permits, GOSI payroll sign-ups, and 15% VAT all apply. Saudization Nitaqat quotas drive a 5% rebates uplift on the Cultural Development Fund's 40% cash rebates.
During Ramadan, the iftar-to-suhoor 9pm-2am window is peak production time — all-night ambient is cleanest. Prayer-time pauses still apply. The workweek runs Sunday-Thursday. There is no domestic Saudi sound union. Global IATSE Local 695, AMPS UK, and CAS work routes through Dubai EPS bureaus like Entertainment Partners ME and Talent Bank Dubai.

FAQ
Our Sound Team Network
What positions make up a sound department?
Here is the breakdown. A full sound department mostly has: Production Sound Mixer (department head, operates recorder and mixing), Boom Operator (primary microphone placement), and Utility Sound/Sound Assistant (wireless management, cable runs, second boom). Smaller shoots may combine roles, while larger ones add positions like Playback Operator or extra boom ops.
How do you determine team size?
Here is what that looks like on the ground. Team size depends on production complexity—number of speaking roles per scene, wireless needs, camera coverage, and pace of shooting. We check your production's needs and recommend appropriate crew levels that balance coverage with budget efficiency.
Do your teams come with equipment?
We give flexible options: teams with their own gear packages, teams with rented gear we set up, or teams using production-given gear. Many of our mixers own full kits, while others prefer working with rental gear.
Can you provide teams for long-running productions?
Yes. We support ongoing TV series, multi-week commercial campaigns, and feature films with steady sound team coverage. We can keep crew scene matching across your production or arrange rotating teams for extended schedules.
What about replacing team members during production?
We can arrange replacement crew if team members become unavailable during production. We prioritize crew familiar with the project when possible and make sure proper handoff of production-specific info to keep consistency.
Do you provide sound teams for international co-productions?
Yes. Our sound teams are skilled working with global shoots filming in Saudi Arabia. They're comfortable with different workflows, global crews integration, and can communicate in English as well as Saudi.
