DEPT · TECHNICAL ROLES ROLE · SOUND RECORDIST TEAMS SAUDI ARABIA

Sound Recordist Teams

Complete sound departments for film, TV, and commercial shoots. We cover Riyadh, Jeddah, and all of Saudi Arabia.

A sound recordist captures audio in the field. This means dialogue, ambient soundscapes, and sound effects for a production. They work from the new Film Commission studios in Riyadh to the stark desert of AlUla and NEOM. They pick the right mics, run the recording gear, and check audio quality in real time. Clean field recordings are the base of a production's final sound design.

We connect you with sound recordists across Saudi Arabia. They bring tech skill and a trained ear to location recording. Our network knows Saudi Film Commission shoots well. They also handle documentary fieldwork. That spans the ancient Nabataean tombs of Hegra to the Red Sea coral reefs. Each one delivers pristine audio that lifts the final mix.

Saudi sound recordist — Sound Devices MixPre / 6XL recorders, documentary + factual + commercial coverage

Our Saudi sound recordists handle documentary, factual, news, branded content, and commercial sound. They work across Sound Devices MixPre-10 II / 6 II / 833 / 888, Zoom F8n Pro, and Sonosax SX-R4+. They also use Tascam DR-680MKII for budget tracks. For mics, they pick Sennheiser MKH 416 / 8060 short shotgun, Schoeps CMIT 5U, and DPA 4017B for boom. For wireless lavaliers, they use DPA 6066 / 4060 / Sanken COS-11D / Countryman B6 / Lectrosonics. These run via Lectrosonics SRc / Audio Ltd A10 / Wisycom MTP60. CST (Communications, Space and Technology Commission) wireless frequency licensing is required in UHF 470-694MHz Saudi-approved bands. Coverage spans MBC Studios Riyadh and Jeddah live broadcast, Al Arabiya news, Saudi Broadcasting Corporation, and Saudi Press Agency (SPA). It also spans Visit Saudi tourism content and Riyadh Season (17M+ visitors annually) live activations. We cover the MDLBEAST Soundstorm December festival (largest Middle East EDM festival) too. We record ceremonies and panels at the Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF Jeddah, annual since 2021). We also cover the Saudi Film Festival Dhahran at Ithra.

Field conditions vary a lot. We deal with AlUla / Hegra (UNESCO 2008) desert wind. We face Empty Quarter / Rub' al Khali haboob-season buffeting. The Red Sea coast brings 70-90% humidity (mic condensation). There is also Asir highlands wind noise, NEOM construction zone ambient, and Riyadh CBD urban traffic. The adhan call to prayer is audible at each urban exterior. It sounds five times a day: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha, plus Friday ~12:00-13:30. Each one needs recording pause and re-take cycles. We record dialogue in Arabic MSA plus Najdi (Riyadh) / Hejazi (Jeddah) / Eastern dialects. Religious sites have limits. No non-Muslim recordists may enter the Mecca / Medina Haram. Hajj audio coverage comes only via accredited Muslim TV networks: Saudi Broadcasting Corporation plus Muslim partners. Compliance covers many areas. There is GCAM (General Commission for Audiovisual Media) type and CST wireless assignment. There is GACA for any UAV-mounted recording. There are Ministry of Human Resources work permits and GOSI payroll sign-ups. Add 15% VAT and Saudization Nitaqat quotas (5% rebates uplift on Cultural Development Fund's 40% cash rebates). Ramadan iftar-to-suhoor 9pm-2am shoots give the cleanest all-night ambient. We work around prayer-time pauses and the Sunday-Thursday workweek. There is no domestic Saudi sound union. Global IATSE Local 695 / AMPS UK / CAS crew work via Dubai EPS bureaus (Entertainment Partners ME, Talent Bank Dubai).

FAQ

Our Sound Team Network

What positions make up a sound department?

A full sound department mostly has three roles. The Production Sound Mixer leads the department, runs the recorder, and mixes. The Boom Operator places the main microphone. The Utility Sound/Sound Assistant handles wireless, cable runs, and a second boom. Smaller shoots may merge roles. Larger ones add roles like Playback Operator or extra boom ops.

How do you determine team size?

Team size depends on how complex the production is. We weigh speaking roles per scene, wireless needs, camera coverage, and pace of shooting. We check your needs and suggest the right crew levels. That balances coverage with budget.

Do your teams come with equipment?

We give you flexible options. Teams can bring their own gear packages. Or we set up rented gear for them. Or they use gear the production supplies. Many of our mixers own full kits. Others prefer to work with rental gear.

Can you provide teams for long-running productions?

Yes. We support ongoing TV series, multi-week commercial campaigns, and feature films. Each gets steady sound team coverage. We can keep the same crew across your production. Or we arrange rotating teams for long schedules.

What about replacing team members during production?

We can arrange replacement crew if a team member becomes unavailable. We pick crew who know the project when we can. We also make sure they get a proper handoff of project info. That keeps the sound consistent.

Do you provide sound teams for international co-productions?

Yes. Our sound teams know global shoots filming in Saudi Arabia well. They handle different workflows with ease. They blend into global crews. They speak both English and Saudi.
