Focus Pullers / 1st ACs

Pro focus pullers who keep your Saudi production sharp and precise.

A focus puller is also called the 1st Assistant Camera. The job is to keep the subject sharp in each take. In Saudi Arabia, shoots range from studio work at NEOM Studios (Bajdah) to tough location days across Jeddah and beyond. Sharp focus needs both tech skill and the knack to adapt to each set.

Our NeedAFixer network links you with skilled focus pullers across Saudi Arabia. They bring trust and precision to each shoot. Our 1st ACs know all major camera systems. They have close ties to Saudi camera rental houses. Each frame stays sharp whether you shoot in Riyadh or out on location across the country.

On Location

Saudi 1st AC focus pulling — Preston FI+Z / cmotion, ARRI WCU-4, AlUla heat-stable wireless follow focus

Our Saudi 1st AC focus pullers run Preston FI+Z / Hand Unit 3 / Micro Force, cmotion cPRO wireless follow focus, ARRI WCU-4, and Tilta Nucleus M / N systems. They run them across ARRI ALEXA 35 / Mini LF / ALEXA 65, RED V-RAPTOR XL / Komodo-X, and Sony VENICE 2 bodies. Glass spans Cooke S7/i, ARRI Signature Primes, Zeiss Supreme Primes, Panavision Ultra Vista, and anamorphic Hawk / Atlas Orion. Recent global 1st AC work spans Kandahar (Gerard Butler 2023 AlUla + NEOM $43M dir. Ric Roman Waugh, DP MacGregor IAC), Desert Warrior (Anthony Mackie 2024 AlUla dir. Rupert Wyatt, DP Polly Morgan ASC BSC), Cherry (Apple TV+ AlUla), Hellraiser plates (AlUla 2022), and Born a King (2019). Saudi-resident DPs Wael Abu Mansour and Ahmad Salman anchor the home roster. Studios include NEOM Bajdah Studios (9,000 m² four sound stages, opened 2022, largest in MENA), MBC Studios Riyadh and Jeddah, Telfaz11 Studios, Manga Productions Riyadh, Pixomondo Riyadh LED Volume, and NEOM XR Lab Unreal Engine 5 virtual production.

Heat-stable focus is a must in June-September 45-50°C extremes. That means heat-rated lens motors (Preston DM2 / DM5). It means watching lubricant viscosity on cine zooms (Angenieux EZ / Optimo, Fujinon Premista). It means regular focus-collar calibration. AlUla cool desert nights drop to winter 5-10°C, so we manage condensation on follow-focus encoders. Spring sandstorm (haboob) protocols use sealed motor housings. We plan wireless through CST (Communications, Space and Technology Commission) for FI+Z 900MHz / 2.4GHz transmitter licensing. Global shoots set up frequency assignments alongside Teradek Bolt and other wireless video. On compliance, we cover GCAM type, GOSI payroll sign-ups, 15% VAT, Saudization Nitaqat quotas (5% rebates uplift on Cultural Development Fund's 40% cash rebates), and Ministry of Human Resources work permits. The schedule allows for prayer-time pauses five daily (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha), Friday ~12:00-13:30, and Ramadan iftar-to-suhoor 9pm-2am production. The workweek runs Sunday-Thursday. There is no home Saudi 1st AC union. Global IATSE Local 600 (US) / ACO (UK) / BSC focus-puller-tier work routes via Dubai EPS bureaus (Entertainment Partners ME, Talent Bank Dubai).
