Art Directors
Art directors who handle Saudi Arabia's ancient Nabatean heritage and Vision 2030 megaprojects. We design for one of the world's fastest-growing production markets.
An art director shapes the whole look of a film or TV production. They turn a director's vision into real spaces. Saudi Arabia gives a fast-changing visual palette. It spans the 2,000-year-old Nabatean tombs of Hegra in AlUla, the mud-brick heritage district of Diriyah, and Jeddah's coral-stone Al Balad quarter. It also spans the vast Empty Quarter desert and the futuristic megaprojects of NEOM and Qiddiya. These sites are redefining what Arabian production spaces can be.
We connect you with art directors who know Saudi Arabia's unique, fast-changing production scene. NEOM Studios is growing to 25+ stages. Jax Film Studios in Riyadh runs Sony virtual production tech. PlayMaker Studios at Qiddiya spans 50 acres. And the Kingdom offers one of the world's most generous incentives, at 40% cash rebates on qualifying spend. Our network delivers creative talent in a market that has already drawn over 40 shoots to NEOM alone.

Why Us
Why Choose Our Art Directors
01.
Nabatean Heritage & Modern Vision
Our art directors draw on Saudi Arabia's visual extremes. These span the ancient rock-carved tombs of Hegra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the restored mud-brick palaces of Diriyah's At-Turaif District. They also span Jeddah's coral-stone Al Balad and the futuristic glass-and-steel plans of NEOM and the Red Sea coast. They handle both ancient heritage and ultramodern spaces with equal ease.
02.
International Credits
Our art directors have worked on the growing wave of global shoots in Saudi Arabia. They know the cultural rules and GCAM approval steps. They also know the high production standards expected as the Kingdom grows into a global filming hub.
03.
Local Resources
We hold ties with NEOM Studios, Jax Film Studios' virtual production skills, and Film AlUla's heritage location services. We also have access to the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) and the Saudi Film Commission. And we tap the fast-growing network of local and global gear suppliers now based in the Kingdom.
04.
Creative Problem Solving
We find smart fixes for Saudi Arabia's unique production setting. These range from harsh desert heat and sand control to cultural care needs. Our art directors boost visual impact while they tap the Kingdom's 40% cash rebates. That is one of the world's most generous production incentives.
On Location
Saudi art direction blending Najdi heritage, AlUla Nabataean texture, and Vision 2030 contemporary
Our Saudi art directors run department visualisation across many sites. These include NEOM Bajdah Studios' four sound stages (9,000 m² largest in MENA, opened 2022) and MBC Studios Riyadh and Jeddah. They also include Telfaz11 Studios' digital-native pipeline behind Sattar (2022 Saudi box-office record). And they include Manga Productions' Riyadh anime facility, a partner of Toei Animation. We have built reference boards for global shoots. These include Kandahar (Gerard Butler 2023, $43M, dir. Ric Roman Waugh, AlUla + NEOM) and Desert Warrior (Anthony Mackie 2024, AlUla, dir. Rupert Wyatt). The boards anchor in regional period detail. That detail spans Hegra / Madain Salih (UNESCO 2008) Nabataean rock-cut tombs and Diriyah Al-Turaif (UNESCO 2010) mud-brick Najdi Salmani build style. It also spans historic Jeddah Al-Balad (UNESCO 2014) Hejazi coral-stone Rawasheen window screens and the Asir highlands Qatt Al-Asiri geometric mural tradition. We set up construction crews through Riyadh JAX District (Diriyah arts hub) workshop space. We route construction permits through Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU), Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), Saudi Film Commission, and General Commission for Audiovisual Media (GCAM) based on jurisdiction.
Heritage accuracy is non-negotiable. Our art directors brief from key sources. These are the National Museum of Saudi Arabia Riyadh, the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) Dhahran, and Ministry of Culture period references. Those references cover pre-Islamic Nabataean, Umayyad, Abbasid, Ottoman Hejaz, and modern Najdi Salmani vernacular. Saudi National Day (Sept 23) and Founding Day (Feb 22) drive heavy heritage period commercial workloads. We cross-coordinate wardrobe libraries with costume departments. These cover the Saudi traditional thobe + ghutra (white-checkered shemagh or red-checkered) + agal for men and abaya regional variants for women. They also cover Bedouin-tribal Najdi / Hejazi / Tihama / Asiri / Hasawi dress. We schedule construction around prayer-time pauses (five daily. Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha plus Friday ~12:00-13:30). We also schedule around Ramadan iftar-to-suhoor 9pm-2am peak production windows, when 45-50°C summer heat makes daytime exterior builds non-viable. Three more factors shape each department budget. These are SFDA-certified halal craft catering, GOSI payroll sign-ups, and Saudization Nitaqat quotas (Saudi-national hire % drives the 5% rebates uplift on Cultural Development Fund's 40% cash rebates).

FAQ
Art Direction Expertise
What does an art director do on a film production?
The art director turns the production designer's vision into reality. They oversee the build and dressing of sets. They set up the art department team. And they keep the visual look consistent across all designed elements. They run the day-to-day work of the production design.
Do you provide production designers as well?
Yes. We provide both production designers, who set the overall visual concept, and art directors, who carry out that vision. On smaller shoots, one person may do both roles. We will suggest the right setup for your project's scale.
Can your art directors work on period productions?
Our art directors know Saudi Arabia's historic settings. These span the Nabatean civilisation at Hegra, the early Islamic build style at Diriyah, and the old Hejazi merchant houses of Al Balad. They work with the Royal Commission for AlUla. They also work with the Saudi Heritage Commission for access to heritage filming sites across the Kingdom.
How do art directors work with location shoots?
Art directors adapt real locations to match your production's visual needs. They add or remove elements and adjust colors and textures. They make sure each location blends with built sets. Saudi Arabia runs from the Red Sea coast to vast desert dune fields to highland villages in the Asir region. That range gives striking visual variety.
What's the typical prep time needed?
Prep time varies by how complex the project is. Features mostly need 6-12 weeks of art department prep. Commercials may need 2-4 weeks. Saudi Arabia needs GCAM approval and Ministry of Media planning. So we advise 2-3 weeks of extra lead time for permits.
Do your art directors speak English?
Yes. English is widely spoken in Saudi Arabia's global shoots community. Our art directors speak fluent English, and many also speak Arabic. That helps a lot when they work with heritage bodies, local vendors, and government agencies across the Kingdom.
