On Location

Saudi props — heritage Bedouin artefacts, Nabataean replica, contemporary Riyadh / NEOM, halal-compliant food work

Our Saudi props masters source from many sites. These include Riyadh JAX District (Diriyah arts hub) workshops and Souq Al-Zal Riyadh (traditional antique souq). They also use the Jeddah Al-Balad Souq Al-Alawi UNESCO 2014 heritage market and Hofuf Al-Qaisariya Souq Al-Ahsa. We tap Asir region craftsman networks for Bedouin tribal artefacts as well. Stock spans Najdi swords (saif), khanjar daggers, and Hejazi merchant chests. It covers brass coffee dallahs and incense burners (mabkhara) for Saudi qahwa coffee with cardamom + saffron service. It includes Ajwa / Sukkari / Sagai date displays (Saudi is world #1 dates producer), camel saddles, and falconry gear (Saudi Falconers Club heritage). We also source Quran stands (kursi) and prayer accessories. We handle heritage period work too. This suits Saudi National Day (Sept 23), Founding Day (Feb 22), and pre-Islamic Nabataean Hegra UNESCO 2008 AlUla shoots. Briefs come from the National Museum of Saudi Arabia Riyadh, the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) Dhahran, and Ministry of Culture period archives. Recent global shoots used our network. These include Kandahar (Gerard Butler 2023 AlUla + NEOM), Desert Warrior (Anthony Mackie 2024 AlUla, dir. Rupert Wyatt), and Born a King (2019). We sourced their military, government, and tribal props.

Food props need SFDA (Saudi Food and Drug Authority) halal certification. These cover kabsa (rice + spiced meat, national dish) and mandi (Yemeni-origin). They also include mutabbaq, jareesh, samboosa, harees, kunafa, and Saudi qahwa with dates. Religious site props need care. Quran stands, prayer mats, and misbaha rosaries call for cultural sensitivity. This follows GCAM (General Commission for Audiovisual Media) type review (G/PG/PG12/PG15/R15/R18). No non-Muslim crew may work within Haram limits. That rule shapes Mecca and Medina props handling. Weapons and replica firearms work needs Saudi Civil Defense + Ministry of Interior weapons permits. An ATA carnet for global fly-in props goes through Saudi Customs (ZATCA). Compliance has many parts. It covers GOSI payroll sign-ups and 15% VAT. Saudization Nitaqat quotas affect a 5% rebates uplift on the Cultural Development Fund's 40% cash rebates. You also need Ministry of Human Resources work permits. The workweek runs Sunday-Thursday with prayer-time pauses. Ramadan brings iftar-to-suhoor 9pm-2am production windows. October-April is the ideal exterior window. June-September brings 45-50°C extreme heat, so you must manage food prop spoilage. There is no domestic props union. Global IATSE Local 44 work routes reciprocally via Dubai EPS bureaus.
