Power Distribution Systems in Saudi Arabia

Safe, reliable on-set power for film and TV production in Saudi Arabia.

Scroll

Here is how this works in practice. Power distribution systems safely route electrical today's from power packs or mains sources to lighting, camera, and production gear across a set. Pro distro boxes, cable runs, and breaker panels make sure balanced loads, proper grounding, and safe power delivery to each department.

Here is the short of it. We give power distribution systems configured for your production's electrical needs and set layout. Our team sets up with your gaffer and best boy to make sure the right capacity, cable lengths, and safety gear are in place for each location on your schedule.

On Location

220V/60Hz Saudi-spec distro boxes, SEC tie-in permits, and Aggreko generator packages routed through MBC Studios for Riyadh stages, NEOM, and AlUla remote builds.

Here is how this works in practice. Saudi power runs on a specific spec — 220V/60Hz. That is distinct from the 220V/50Hz European convention most global distro gear ships configured for. We source 60Hz-compatible distro boxes through MBC Studios' Riyadh and Jeddah electrics departments, or we specify auto-switching units on each imported package.

Here is the short of it. SEC (Saudi Electricity Company) tie-in permits handle building feeds. That covers MBC's Riyadh stages and downtown commercial locations. For remote work, dedicated power packs ship through Aggreko Saudi, Cummins, and Caterpillar dealer networks. They cover AlUla, the Empty Quarter, and other off-grid shoots.

NEOM runs an independent grid. The grid uses Acwa Power at the same 220V/60Hz spec. NEOM Bajdah Studios has dedicated stage power feeds sized to its 9,000 m² footprint.

Plug standards run hybrid in Saudi Arabia. You will see legacy Type G British, Type A and B North American, and increasingly Type F European in newer buildings. So we ship multi-standard adapter kits on each booking.

Here is the breakdown. Several major shoots used silent power packs on sound-sensitive shoots. Kandahar's NEOM exteriors, Desert Warrior's AlUla canyon builds, Cherry's Apple TV+ AlUla unit, and the Telfaz11 commercial pipeline all leaned on them. Saudi-specific haboob protection routines cover power packs intake filters and distro box weather seals.

On AlUla and Empty Quarter shoots, we now stage battery-and-solar hybrid packages more often. That is because fuel logistics across the Hisma Plateau get in practice heavy.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. Heat planning anchors each distro design. June-September summer highs of 45-50°C throttle cable insulation rating. That means heavier-gauge feeders than European-equivalent runs. Prayer-time pauses (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha) double as load-tracking windows. Saudization (Nitaqat) hiring of Saudi-national electricians qualifies shoots for the 5% rebates uplift on the 40% Saudi Film Commission cash rebates.

FAQ

Power Distribution Expertise

What generator sizes do you provide?

We supply power packs from 20kVA to 500kVA including super-silent units for sound-sensitive shoots. Multi-power packs setups for larger power needs. Battery hybrid systems and tow plant units for many location needs.

How do you calculate power requirements?

We perform detailed load calculations based on your lighting package, camera and DIT needs, video village, and all other electrical needs. We factor in startup loads and give appropriate headroom for safe, reliable operation.

Can you provide power at historic locations?

Here is the breakdown. Yes, we specialize in powering shoots at Saudi Arabia's historic locations including châteaux, churches, and covered sites. We set up with venue needs, give appropriate cabling without damage, and make sure compliance with preservation guidelines.

Do you handle tie-ins to venue power?

We set up tie-ins to venue electrical systems where appropriate, working with licensed Saudi electricians and venue tech staff. We check ready power, arrange short-term connections, and make sure safe disconnection after your shoot.

What about power for remote locations?

For remote exteriors without mains power, we give full power packs solutions including fuel management, noise mitigation, and multi-day operation. We plan logistics to make sure uninterrupted power across your shoot.

How do you ensure electrical safety on set?

All gear is PAT tested and well rated. We use RCD protection across, employ licensed electricians, and follow Saudi electrical safety rules. Detailed records and safety briefings make sure crew awareness.
