SCENE 01 / LED WALL VIRTUAL

LED Wall Virtual Production in Saudi Arabia

In-camera visual effects for your Saudi production.

Scroll

LED wall virtual production uses big LED display volumes. They show real-time rendered scenes behind your cast. This swaps the old green screen for true-to-life in-camera backdrops. Saudi Arabia is putting huge money into studios. Jax Film Studios in Riyadh runs 7,000m² of stages with Sony virtual production tech. NEOM Studios in Bajdah is growing to 25+ stages. PlayMaker Studios in Qiddiya covers 50 acres. Film AlUla backs shoots in the Hegra heritage region.

We link you with LED wall sites and Unreal Engine teams across the Kingdom. Top post houses back the work too. These include Nebras Films (the best in the Gulf), AFLAM Productions, Hoku Film Production and MSKH Studio. Our team sets up stage booking and virtual art department resources. We also handle the 40% Saudi Film Incentive cash rebates. These run through Film AlUla, the Saudi Film Commission and the Red Sea Film Foundation.

ICVFX volumes at Pixomondo Riyadh, NEOM XR Lab — Mandalorian-tier in-camera VFX

Two major sites anchor the Saudi LED Volume setup. Pixomondo Riyadh runs a full ICVFX (in-camera visual effects) LED Volume. Pixomondo's global lead came from The Mandalorian and Star Trek Discovery. The Riyadh studio is the regional hub for that pipeline. NEOM XR Lab runs Unreal Engine 5 real-time virtual production. It has a dedicated LED Volume and motion-capture stage. This is scaled for Saudi-Arabia-hosted shoots and NEOM-internal media. Big Time Studios Riyadh keeps a smaller LED Volume tier. Manga Productions runs a Japan-trained real-time anime and live-action hybrid pipeline. This is the Saudi-Japan JV with Toei Animation. NEOM Bajdah Studios is the 9,000m² 4-stage sound complex — the largest in MENA. It backs extra LED Volume builds when shoots need custom panels beyond Pixomondo's standing volume.

Our workflow runs the current ICVFX global stack. Unreal Engine 5 drives it with nDisplay for multi-cluster playback. This feeds the Brompton SX40 or Megapixel HELIOS LED processor. The on-stage cinema camera is the ARRI Alexa 35 + Mini LF or the RED V-Raptor 8K VV. Motion-tracking runs via stYpe RedSpy or Mo-Sys StarTracker. An ACES color pipeline is mastered against the LED panel calibration. The panels are mostly 2.6mm or 1.9mm pitch ROE Visual Black Pearl BP2v2 or Carbon CB5. The LED Volume crew uses Saudi-resident Unreal Engine ops. They train through Pixomondo + NEOM XR Lab programs. Global fly-in supervisors come too. They arrive via 90-minute DXB→RUH links from London/LA. We pre-vis for AlUla, Empty Quarter, Red Sea and NEOM coast scenes. Shoots can film the AlUla red-rock plate at sunset. The next day they capture talent inside the volume with matching light direction. Cultural Development Fund rebates cover LED Volume stage day-rates + ICVFX crew at 35% + a 5% Saudization uplift. The General Commission for Audiovisual Media (GCAM) licenses content distribution.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is LED wall virtual production?

LED wall virtual production is also called ICVFX (In-Camera Visual Effects). It uses big LED displays to show real-time rendered scenes behind actors. The camera captures both the cast and the backdrop in-camera. This gives true-to-life lighting and reflections.

What are the advantages over green screen?

LED walls give true-to-life lighting. They light actors in a natural way. They capture true reflections in eyes and on surfaces. Actors can also see the scene they perform in. The shots are captured in-camera. This cuts post-prod VFX work.

What kind of environments can you create?

We can build nearly any scene. This spans true Saudi spots such as Hegra (AlUla), Diriyah, the Asir highlands, the Red Sea coast, the Empty Quarter desert and Riyadh's modern skyline. We can also build sci-fi and historical worlds. Scenes can come from photogrammetry of real Saudi sites. We can also design them in Unreal Engine.

Do you have LED stages in Saudi Arabia?

Yes. Jax Film Studios in Riyadh runs Sony virtual production stages. NEOM Studios gives growing ICVFX-ready space. PlayMaker Studios in Qiddiya covers 50 acres of new setup. The 17 working studios across the country total 100,000m².

How does camera tracking work?

Camera tracking systems read the camera's exact spot and rotation in real-time. The virtual scene then responds with correct parallax as the camera moves. This creates lifelike shifts in view.

What's involved in pre-production?

Virtual production needs heavy pre-production. We build digital scenes, plan camera moves and set up the tech. An early start gives time to build assets. It also lets us refine creative choices.

Productions in Saudi Arabia that need this often pair it with Virtual Production, AR Production, and Motion Control Filming for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Cinema Lens Kits and TV & Film Production Services.
