SCENE 01 / BOOM OPERATORS
Boom Operators in Saudi Arabia
Experienced boom operators for film, TV, and commercial productions throughout Saudi Arabia.
Boom operators are skilled techs. They place microphones to catch clean dialogue and room sound on set. We deliver this work across Saudi Arabia's growing film scene. That spans NEOM's new studio sites, shoots in Riyadh, and AlUla's vast desert. A boom operator works in close sync with the sound mixer. They must read actor movement, avoid shadows, and hold the best mic spot on each take.
We connect you with skilled boom operators across Saudi Arabia. They bring precision, stamina, and sharp on-set awareness to your sound team. You might shoot at MBC Studios or in Jeddah's historic Al-Balad district. Either way, our operators meet MBC broadcast and global standards. Our team matches each operator to your pace and style. We make sure the audio stays clean in all shoot conditions.

Boom ops who track muezzin timing and AlUla wind off the wadis
Boom work in Saudi Arabia means knowing the sound foes at each key location. AlUla wadi shoots get sliced by katabatic wind off the canyon walls at dawn and dusk. So boom ops carry layered windshield setups (Rycote Cyclone, Schoeps SuperCMIT 2 with full Connbox shield, Cinela Pianissimo). They pre-test the Hegra and Elephant Rock area before each setup. Historic Jeddah Al-Balad (UNESCO 2014 coral-stone alleys) echoes hard between narrow 3-4m walls. Boom ops swing tight for closeness, and the production sound mixer routes the high-pass hard. Diriyah Al-Turaif (UNESCO 2010) mud-brick interior sound is oddly dry. The boom op can use a longer pole for clean wide coverage. At all sites the muezzin call-to-prayer rings five times a day (Fajr pre-dawn, Dhuhr midday, Asr afternoon, Maghrib sunset, Isha night). Each one drops a firm 8-12 minute audio override. Our boom ops carry the prayer-time app and brief the script supervisor before each shoot day. That way dialogue setups skip those windows.
Our roster covers Saudi-resident boom ops who came up through MBC Studios drama, Telfaz11 features (Sattar, Barakah Meets Barakah), and the Red Sea International Film Festival lab program. Many trained under fly-in global sound mixers on Desert Warrior (Polly Morgan ASC BSC's department) and Kandahar (MacGregor IAC lead). Global tier-1 boom ops fly in from London and LA on 90-minute DXB→RUH connections. They mostly work alongside their go-to production sound mixers and 2nd ACs. Standard gear includes Schoeps CMIT 5U and SuperCMIT 2, Sennheiser MKH 8060 and 8050, plus Sanken CS-3e for stereo run-and-gun. K-Tek Avalon Pro carbon poles come in 8, 12, and 16ft. Lectrosonics SRc, SMV, and SMQV body packs and Wisycom MTP41S handle hybrid boom-plus-radio setups. NEOM Bajdah Studios and MBC studios keep in-house boom stock. Cross-border kit ships from Dubai via Emirates SkyCargo and through Saudi Customs (ZATCA) carnet processing.
FAQ
Our Boom Op Network
What does a boom operator do?
A boom operator places and moves the boom microphone. The goal is to catch the best dialogue and sound while filming. They work closely with the sound mixer. They track actor movement, dodge camera frames and shadows, and hold steady sound on each take.
Do boom operators bring their own equipment?
Most boom operators use gear given by the sound mixer or production. Still, many own their own boom poles, headphones, and add-ons. We plan gear needs based on your setup and the sound mixer's choices.
What experience levels do you provide?
We give boom operators across all skill levels. New talent suits indie and low-budget projects. Mid-level operators bring solid credits. Senior boom ops have feature film and major broadcast work behind them. We match the skill level to your budget and how complex the job is.
Can boom operators work as utility sound?
Yes. Many of our boom operators are skilled in utility sound work. That covers wireless mic placement, cable handling, gear transport, and second boom work. We can suggest flexible crew for shoots that need broad sound support.
How do boom operators coordinate with camera?
Skilled boom operators know camera framing, lens choices, and lighting setups. They talk straight with camera operators and gaffers. Together they find spots that catch clean audio. The boom stays out of frame and casts no shadows.
What about boom operators for documentary work?
Documentary boom work needs other skills. It calls for quick thinking, stamina, and the knack to catch sound in shifting scenes. We have pros skilled in vérité documentary, reality TV, and run-and-gun styles.
