SCENE 01 / AERIAL DRONE SERVICES
Aerial Drone Services in Saudi Arabia
Licensed drone operators delivering cinematic aerial footage across Saudi Arabia.
Aerial drone services deliver sweeping overhead views across Saudi Arabia's dramatic terrain. We cover the sandstone shapes of AlUla and the modern skyline of Riyadh. Drones give low-cost aerial coverage for shot setups, desert reveals, and any shoot that needs high viewpoints over iconic Saudi scenery.
We set up fully GACA-licensed aerial drone services that meet Saudi aviation rules. Our team handles flight permits through the Saudi Film Commission. We secure airspace sign-off and plan with local authorities. This lets your shoot capture stunning aerial footage safely and legally at each location.

GACA-licensed cinematic drone — AlUla, NEOM, Empty Quarter, Riyadh CBD
Aerial drone work in Saudi Arabia spans many jurisdictions. GACA (General Authority of Civil Aviation) issues base operator and pilot certification. But four overlapping authorities can add layers. The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) covers any flight inside AlUla county. RCU sets hard buffers around Hegra (UNESCO 2008 Nabataean tombs), Elephant Rock, and AlUla Old Town. It also caps altitude near Maraya concert hall. Maraya is the Guinness 2019 largest mirrored building worldwide. It can act as a sun-reflector hazard at low golden hour. The NEOM authority runs its own special economic zone airspace. This covers Sindalah, The Line, Trojena, and Oxagon. No aerial work happens there without NEOM internal sign-off on top of GACA. Mecca and Medina sit inside military exclusion zones, with no exceptions. We pre-clear all permit tracks at once. We hold standing GACA ties that cut lead-time to 5-7 days for standard work, and 10-14 days for off-limits-airspace or night-aerial work.
Gear scales from compact to cinema-heavy. We use DJI Mavic 3 Cine and Inspire 3 with X9-8K Air for documentary and tourism briefs. This includes dune-pan reveals across the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali). The Rub' al Khali is the largest sand desert worldwide. It has no grid and needs no permits beyond the Saudi Film Commission baseline. For tier-1 cinema work, we fly heavy-lift Freefly Alta X and custom octocopters. These carry ARRI Alexa Mini LF / 35, RED V-Raptor, and Sony Venice 2. Two films deployed at this tier. Kandahar (Gerard Butler 2023, dir. Ric Roman Waugh, MacGregor IAC aerial DP, AlUla + NEOM, $43M budget) was one. Desert Warrior (Anthony Mackie 2024, dir. Rupert Wyatt, AlUla, Polly Morgan ASC BSC) was the other. FPV drone work covers chase sequences and proximity action. It runs purpose-built freestyle frames with GoPro Hero 12 or RED Komodo light-payload variants. Climate shapes the schedule. October-April brings ideal flight weather. June-September hits 45-50°C, and spring haboob sandstorms ground operations. We hold archive Dakar Rally Saudi route files (run each January through the AlUla + Empty Quarter corridor).
FAQ
Aerial Cinematography Expertise
What drone certifications do your pilots have?
All our pilots hold the Saudi GACA certifications needed for commercial drone work. Many also hold certs from other aviation authorities. We keep full records. These cover flight logs, insurance, and operating manuals.
Can you fly drones in cities like Riyadh?
Urban drone flying in Saudi Arabia needs special sign-off. Riyadh has large off-limits airspace. But we can get permits for set locations with advance notice. We handle all permit filings and plan with authorities.
What cameras can you mount on drones?
We fly everything from built-in camera systems to heavy-lift platforms. The built-in lines include DJI Inspire and Mavic. The heavy-lift rigs carry RED, ARRI Mini, and other cinema cameras. We match the platform to your image quality needs and shot type.
Do you provide FPV drone services?
Yes. We have skilled FPV pilots for dynamic shots. These cover chase sequences, indoor flying, and high-speed proximity work. Our FPV team uses purpose-built drones with cinema-grade cameras for broadcast-ready footage.
What about night aerial filming?
We are signed off for night drone work. We use proper lighting, stronger safety rules, and the right certifications. Night flying needs extra planning and sign-off. So please share your needs early.
How far in advance should we book?
We can often book standard aerial shoots with 1-2 weeks notice. Some jobs need more lead time. These include special sign-off, off-limits airspace access, or multi-drone setups. They may need 3-4 weeks for full planning and approval.

Productions in Saudi Arabia that need this often pair it with Helicopter Filming, High Speed Filming, and Cable Cam Systems for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Camera & Cinematography and Drone Videography.
