SCENE 01 / PRODUCTION SCHEDULING

Production Scheduling in Saudi Arabia

Expert schedule development and timeline management for productions in Saudi Arabia.

Scroll

Production scheduling sets the shooting order and daily scene breakdowns. It builds the timeline that runs your whole filming period. In Saudi Arabia, good scheduling weighs creative goals against real limits. Those limits include Saudi Film Commission permit needs. They also include extreme heat that caps outdoor filming hours. And they cover planning between Riyadh, Jeddah, and remote desert sites.

We bring local know-how to your production scheduling. We know Saudi Arabia's location access windows, weather patterns, and logistics limits. This spans NEOM's growing studio sites, Riyadh's new setup, and remote spots. Our team backs your assistant director and line producer. Together we build realistic, lean shooting schedules. They lift output and still fit Saudi shoot conditions.

On Location

Production scheduling in Saudi Arabia builds around the Sunday-Thursday workweek, five daily prayer holds, Friday Jummah 12:00-13:30 hard close, Ramadan night-shift restructuring, Hijri calendar awareness, and the October-April ideal shoot window before summer heat hits AlUla, NEOM, and the Empty Quarter

Saudi shoot schedules differ from Western ones in five set ways. The working week runs Sunday through Thursday. This changed from Thursday-Friday weekends in 2013 for GCC alignment. So a six-day shooting block mostly runs Sunday-Friday. Saturday is the prep, wrap, and reset day. A five-day block wraps Thursday before Jummah. Five daily prayer pauses fall each day: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha. Each eats about 15-30 minutes. We write them into call sheets and Movie Magic schedules. Dhuhr mostly blocks shooting around 11:30-12:15 in winter. In summer it runs 11:45-12:30. The exact time tracks the sun's spot on the Hijri calendar. Friday Jummah prayer runs about 12:00-13:30. It is a hard close on most locations. Ramadan cuts daytime shooting to zero for fasting crew. Iftar and suhoor catering drive a night-shift switch across the whole month. Eid Al-Fitr lasts 3 days after Ramadan. Eid Al-Adha lasts 4 days during Hajj season. Both shut the country's commercial calendar.

Climate and rules add more limits to Saudi schedules. The ideal shoot window is October through April. Then daytime heat sits at 15-30°C across most of the Kingdom. Summer (June-September) at AlUla, NEOM, the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali), and Jeddah hits 45-50°C. That heat forces night-only schedules. Sandstorm (haboob) season runs March-May. It needs shoot-stop rules and weather backup days. AlUla shoots run under Film AlUla / Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) permit windows. These sit apart from the Saudi Film Commission's mainland scheduling. NEOM shoots run under the NEOM authority inside the special economic zone. Riyadh-city closures clear with Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC). We set up the lead times you need. These cover Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa lead times for incoming crew. They cover GACA drone-flight windows for the aerial unit. They cover CST frequency-licensing timelines for range gear. And they cover ATA carnet customs lead times via Saudi Customs (ZATCA). This applies at Riyadh King Khalid (RUH), Jeddah King Abdulaziz (JED), or AlUla International (ULH).
